About Us

Founder of Mumma Mail & Mr Boaz

The whiplash of Matrescence made my mental health spiral out of control after becoming pregnant with my son. My experience of Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), birth injury, and Postpartum Depression (PPD) left me feeling incredibly isolated, alone, and misunderstood. After being diagnosed with PTSD from HG I was on a mission to deeply understand the psychological and physiological affects of maternal traumatic experiences - mainly to recover from my PTSD but also to help other mothers feel less alone.
Mumma Mail is a space where trauma is not measured by gratitude, and our love for our children is not measured by how dishonest we are about our suffering.
After maternal experiences such a PPD, HG, pregnancy loss, and Matrescence as a whole, the body's nervous system often reacts before the mind has time to reason with it. The affirmations/truths in our care packs exist to recenter our thoughts and self talk. The letters in our packs are intended to give language to suffering - being truly witnessed is part of what allows the nervous system to slowly stop carrying everything alone.
The art of handwritten letters is slowly fading, along side the idea that we hold the mothers while she holds her baby. The idea that everything is okay as long as the baby is healthy is a narrative that is incredibly damaging to our modern society, and more specifically maternal connection. My goal is to keep maternal connection alive, especially for those that don't have a village.
It is our responsibility - if not for ourselves, then for our children - to care for our mental health and trauma recovery in the same way we would care for a physical illness.
I hope this space helps you on your journey through motherhood <3
